Creating an Instrument Issue

Hey Everyone:

Just a quick question about a Kontakt issue I'm working though:

My first forays into creating an instrument from scratch (Very simple uses only 1 sample). I'm trying to get the sample to play at different pitches but the same tempo (If that makes any sense). its mapped correctly and I have the crossfade set etc. But, higher pitches play back faster than lower pitches. I tried using the 'tone machine' and time machine settings but they don't allow me to cross fade and they change the fundamental sound to some sort of vocoder or give it a weird brass sound etc depending on the setting.

I tried creating the same sort of instrument in Reaktor but the sampler there doesn't have crossfade abilities (That I can find).

Ive tried to do my due diligence (searching before I post etc). But no luck so far.

Thanks for any help!!

Take care

Patt.

Got it. As you say, Kontakt won't crossfade loops in tm pro mode. (I guess the programming maths would be quite tricky for something that wouldn't be used that much.)

    2 possible workarounds.

    1. Concatenate a whole lot of crossfaded instances of your sample in an audio editor, making a single sample which is so long you won't need to loop it. Use tm pro to control tune. If necessary, create a whole lot of groups, one for each note, each with your megasample mapped to that note, and tune set appropriately. (Your megasample will only be loaded once into memory).
    2. Create a separate sample for each note. Record each one from Kontakt in tm pro, with all envelopes, effects etc switched off except tune. The you can crossfade the loops normally in sampler mode.

Whatever it is, I am sure Kontakt can do it.

Not quite sure what you want to do, or how you would crossfade a single sample. Can we have some more details?

    Hey @stephen24

    Thanks for the response!!

    Long story short:

Trying to recreate an old Roland d-10 patch: 'Warm Pad Fade' which I liked using to sketch with.

I made the instrument in Logic's simple sampler but wanted to use it outside of Logic. Thought I'd try to make one in Kontakt or Reactor. Logic has a match tempo function I wanted to emulate in Kontakt:

I need to change the pitch of the sample to each key it is mapped to but preserving the sample length. Without this function the higher I go on the keyboard the sample tracks properly for pitch but also plays back faster. This is a problem since the sample has some motion to it so it starts to "warble" up high. When I use the "Tone Machine" or "Time Machine) settings I can't crossfade the loop area I have set (to get rid of pops and clicks) and it changes the tone of the sample to some sort of vocoder-like effect despite playing with the formant setting etc.

I used just the one sample I could find to create this but no luck as I mentioned. I resampled the original at different intervals so I had more samples to work with but still had the same results to a lesser extent.

    Take care
