Based on Matt’s response, it’s becoming increasingly clear that we will likely never see a return to deep integration between Maschine and Komplete Kontrol. At best, we might get a stripped-down, limited version of what once was—but certainly not the seamless workflow that many of us have relied on for years.

I think that's pretty certain given the MkIII keyboards do not have the Maschine specific buttons. But let's be more specific about the relationship between the functionality you get with KK3 and Mas3 because it's a bit more complex. In some respects the new 'basic' integration is behind what you can get with Komplete Kontrol 3, in that the browsing and MIDI mixer are not present - personally I see no reason why the browsing at least could not be added (although there may be technical reasons I am unaware of) and that is why I'm seeking clarification from Matt whether the current functionality is going to stay as is, or we are going to see browsing coming back too, as I hope.

Whether the mixer can be visualised on the screen I suppose may be harder technically due to differences in the hardware capabilities, but it would be great if it could.

On the other hand, to be fair, in other respects the current 'basic' implementation is on a par with KK3 and an improvement on KK2.9.6 (and Maschine 2) in that we have support for most of the NKS2 feature set, including param grouping and the more dynamic layouts.

Yes the browsing functionality is also my main concern for the KK MK3.If it allowed for this and pinning it I’d be a happy camper.

I THINK from everything I read that the vast majority of music software/hardware users simply flick through presets until they find one they like, load it up and don’t bother even tweaking the sound a single bit.

The same users have one midi controller, many happy with say a 25 note dirt cheap keyboard with mini keys that both looks and feels like a toy.

A few posts ago you mentioned that over any given time period, 94% of users loaded Komplete Kontrol content without using tags. I can believe that.

It would be interesting if the data collected could see what percentage tweaked./edited their sounds and how. I wouldn’t be surprised if the vast majority of those never using tags, also never left the default screen, never changed effects, never did any in-depth preset editing etc etc?

I think that’s the norm for a lot of things. I’m a very casual MS word and Excel user. There’s literally nothing I do now that I couldn’t do on the versions I had on my works PC in the early 90s. The only really useful advance for me is the underlining of miss-spelt words due to my spelling being so bad.

I THINK that what I deduce from all this is, when companies develop their products, while of course they need to make money from the majority of everyday users who won’t ever use new features, they still need to listen to that 5 - 10% of power users, and to add some of the requested features along with addding new ideas.

Otherwise no product would ever really keep evolving, keep being innovative etc.

Regarding multiple keyboards, I currently have my mk3 S88 as my main keyboard, Arturia Keylab mk2 61 note for playing synth/organ sounds and a Arturia Keylab essential 49 keys for playing when I’m stuck in my armchair. One thing I really really love is that both my Arturia 61 and NI S88 work so well together. Both sets of controls work at the same time, and I only need to have one sustain pedal, I have the pedal plugged into my S88 and if I play my 61 note, the pedal still sustains it. I might be in the smallest percentage, but these keyboards working together is something I love. It also gets around the s88 not having sliders :)

    Agree totally.

If NI had a secret “kill” switch that they used to disable all mk1 keyboards then yes, that would be wrong. But as has been said numerous times, it still works today just like it did 2 years ago.

I’m sure there’s many other older players like me who over the years have bought no end of physical synths.

When I bought a particular synth and the company announced a new model, did I (or anyone) complain that they had discontinued their old models or that it was unfair that sound cards released for their new synths wouldn’t work in their old ones? Of course not. The old ones still worked just like when we purchased them.
