Komplete Kontrol 3x Updates Roadmap ?

Yeah, but luckily the whole expansion onto other platforms is all pretty much NKS1 so the work we have done as a community makes a big difference.

Yes i appreciate what you guys do Vagus I didn't realize you have create 3rd party NKS presets.. thank you for all of the work you guys put in

That only two parameters are exposed is a crime in itself!

I'm no developer, but realistically to recreate what GUI that Vagus has shown us above, to rearrange and update the code for the browser, update the UI, and add the major features we've all wanted.
Realistically with great developers how long of a process would that take ? Are we talking about a year or months?
Some of you guys that actually develop and code software for a living, would know better than the rest of us musicians only. ;)

When I was a senior developer (and team lead) in a former life and IF I had say - myself AND two ideal resources who really knew the code (and we had nothing on our plate but the Vagus diagram) - redoing the UI would probably be a solid 4 weeks just to move everything around and get a working alpha state browser.
The recode to bring it pull it all together so everything does what it should - properly - min 6 weeks and then another month for internal Q&A and probably another 2 months for actual NDA-type user (real world) testing.
This would be the ideal scenario - with no resource constraints, no staff changes and no other asks to pull the team away.

Let's not assume estimates without knowledge of the tech stack itself 🤔.
A lot of the requests here are good ones, are known and discussed, and may be addressed at some point. But if they were as simple as you're making them sound, they might have been done already.
Added to which: I know it's not the most popular refrain of mine, but I do feel compelled to point out that not every user request is universally relevant, and that it is hard to make all users happy all the time when the user counts are as high as they are.
Focus being what it is, has allowed us to slowly but surely make our way through many longstanding areas of concern (as opposed to taking on too much at once, to the detriment of all), an effort that'll continue. Sometimes, that means building something else first, on account of a variety of factors, such as the volume of requests.

to point out that not every user request is universally relevant, and that it is hard to make all users happy all the time
Personally, i fully understand this. But in this case, I would give full priority to the wishes of the professionals, the creators, the artists and the real enthusiasts, instead of the average newbie who just happened to have some money and like to spend them in music technology just because "everyone is doing this".
Of course, i understand that is nearly impossible to know in advance who is who…4 -
Totally fair point, well taken. I realise that 20 minutes in photoshop would take many months of work - I'm not oblivious to that.
The following is said with respect, and affection for a lot of the people at NI (including you) and what those teams are creating, so I hope this doesn't come across like a 'mouthy teenager.' I'm older than I'm happy with and I'm starting to feel it, to be honest.
I don't pretend to understand the pervious tech stack, nor how you're managing that and feature development pipelines. I also don't profess to have any skills as a developer, nor access to the volume of requests for any given feature. I do, however, run a software as a service business, which is constantly (every six weeks) adding new features, at around 40% requested vs 60% internally designed features. You cannot simply allow the userbase to design feature sets, but you should understand what they need or want, and make informed decisions based on appicable use-case, and wider adoption potential.
All I can see outside the support requests is a bunch of the same people asking for the same thing; progress. Some of the improvements in Kontakt have been brilliant over the last two years, but that's to be expected given the industry standard nature of the software, its financial impact for NI and the team working on it.
KK and NKS isn't an industry standard, but it asbolutely has and always had the potential to be. Opening up to other hardware vendors is probably the right first step, but a format / platform is only successful based on its users, not because it's a feature in a sales sheet. (I say this with the knowledge that Maschine is a premium product, where KK is the freemium gateway to content/products - there should ultimately be a difference in team size / support)
At this point in time, there are probably more unofficial 3rd party NKS packs than official NKS support for non-Kontakt instruments. There is inherent value in that; because the community is expanding that support, regardless of NI's internal standards being met (I've personally pointed out at least one problem with both a 1st party and 3rd party commerical releases - so we can all slip up - stuff happens in development and that's fine. In the same way, sometimes the community might do things in a different way than NI perhaps intends, or expects).
The community on here are making the lives of others easier, especially for partially sighted or blind users, so they can use not just NI products, but other products within an accessibility feature which is so highly valued by that community. It's why accessibility features for Kontrol MK3 will be so welcomed by that specific community when they're ready.
I also realise, this has been a very long response Matthew, and totally get Kontakt is your thing now. I wish you and @Chris_NI the best of luck, because you're in charge of the most relvent studio plugin on the market, and what could be the most relevent plugin for non-studio users, given the right development.
Chris, you're absolutely welcome to message me, email me, or join the Kontakt meetups that happen from time-to-time; I pop on them when I can and I'm always happy to talk for far longer than time allows, because I work in communications. I love talking. But as with all people involved in marketing anything, I do want to feel liike I'm heard. I don't need to be THE voice, but it's great to have A voice, and these forums are that. We may not always agree, but it's good to talk it out.
But my worry is this: It feels like there's a lack of progress on KK- , as evidenced by the lack of any real mention in the recent roadmap. I appreciate that Chris did respond when questioned on it. I also appreciate we've not spoken much, and I'm sure you're like "Who is this guy?". I'm honestly only interested in the wider adoption of NKS and its potential. And NI finally building a music technology equivilent of Steam. And selling more products to me. But backing away from sidequesting to be back on topic.
I am confident that the future across NI's product lines can be so successful, but it feels like it's an either or for some products compared to others.9 -
All i get from what I read from the Mods is we are the 5% and great ideas but will look for new customers that will bring us $ now.. i keep hearing how busy they are and see less in return..
Like I said before NAMM if you cant beat em join em.. guess what that is what NI has done.. i don't have Maschine + unless they gave the hardware to Akai to develope code for its will be slow pace here at NI.
KONTROL MK3 been 17 months and we are on the back burner on polite.

Ok so definitely less than a year correct ? Komplete Kontrol v1 software was released in October 2014 just to put things in perspective. 3 versions later here we are, so at this rate NI is at an average of 3.6 years per release.
What have they really ever done for NKS v1 until now ? They finally get Akai and a few other hardware companies to adopt their v1 NKS technology 11 years later ? This makes Namm news in 2025 !
NKS v2 , is why I became re-interested in NI,from some NI videos they claimed they would be able to do more with the MK3 hardware/ software, but they're on track to delivering more of the same it seems. I don't see any real major creative idea's flowing from them.
The UI mock up from Vagus was a breath of fresh air, and for a second it felt like this could be possible actually, but it's hard to trust anything they say anymore regarding any kind of new features or updates..
I'm afraid to ask, but I guess I will, WHEN CAN WE TRULY expect we get all the features from Komplete Kontrol V2 features in V3 ?
At this point I've lost hope in any new features being added, but the ones from what 6 years ago, can we at least maybe get a timeline on those returning?

Well,11 years on and i'm still waiting for some rather basic features we suggested over and over…. Like the ability to exclude a tag type from a search using maybe CTRL + Click so if you are looking at bass sounds for instance and do NOT want Arpeggiated sounds in your search you can exclude these at a click (one of so many useful suggestions over the years).
You feel frustrated now, imagine how some of us feel after a decade and still see no user suggested improvements make the cut, in fact more has been lost with the crippled browser and the broken bank filtering which is STILL not even slated to be addressed!!!

It wasn't until last year that we decided to open NKS to other companies - we'd always been a walled garden and considered NKS proprietary to our hardware. Those attitudes have changed in recent years. After all, there are more NI software users using other hardware than there are using NI hardware… why not help everyone?
NKS1 is now open to partners.
NKS2 remains proprietary to more capable hardware, such as Kontrol MK3, and potential future hardware devices from partners.
NKS2 is already pretty exciting - but there's more coming here.
In terms of Komplete Kontrol parity (from v2 to v3), we're not saying we're going to deliver parity. We're going to continue to develop v3 in the ways that make the most sense, some of which are outlined in this thread by us or others, and some of which will address some pain points re: parity.

You being one of the biggest contributer to Komplete kontrol software and radio silence from the Mods speaks volumes here.. its always an excuse instead of them inviting you back to beta testing for the things us 5% are asking for its a shame.
