Kontakt 7 Imported Libraries data file location?

Can someone tell me which files contain the internal list of imported 3rd party libraries in Kontakt 7 full? I would like to back up this file(s)

I know where the Kontakt 7 Quickload files are stored and I do back these up regularly.

Thanks!

    It's user_config.db3 in user library/application support/Native Instruments/Kontakt 7

However I tried copying it over into Kontakt 8 and that didn't work so maybe something else is needed too?

    Kymeia thanks for responding.

I have hundreds of 3rd party non-player Kontakt libraries that I have imported into my Kontakt 7 User area. I would dread having to import them all again into Kontakt 8.

Please let me know if you find a method to transfer these.

    Thanks!

I wish I knew - I can't see any reason why it isn't working. If I open the db file in a database editor I can even see the paths to the imported libraries but K8 just isn't reading it, however if I import a library into K8 it creates exactly the same database but just with the library in I just imported. All I can think of is maybe there is a change somewhere in the formatting of the database?

I have been able to copy over my Quickload setup though.

Have you tried rescanning in K8?
I’ve decided to hold off on K8 for a little bit so I’m not able to do any testing.

I’m going to take a look at the K7 DB file

    Thanks for keeping this rolling!

Rescan only seems to apply to the library selected in the import dialogue, it doesn't add my ones I can see in the database

K8 is definitely using the same database file though as I tried deleting it then adding just one library and it recreated it with just that library. But when I delete that and copy over the database file from Kontakt 7 it ignores it. Very strange

    Hey Kymeia I had a thought/ experiment….

If you add a new non-player Kontakt instrument directly inside the database for Kontakt 7, does it then show inside Kontakt as if it was imported? In other words, is updating/transferring the DB all that is required or is there some kind of write/update needed to the DB.

Does that make sense as a test to see what's going on?

BTW I can't imagine that this process of transferring the installed 3rd party Kontakt libraries to Kontakt 8 isn't something that more people are talking about. It sure seems like this would be affecting LOTS of users.

Apparently user_config.db3 is a backup of user library paths but the important database to copy over is still komplete.db3 which contains NI and third party paths. Tried it and it works - just copy from K7 to K8 user folder and allow it to update

Wow that’s good to know! Finally some nice news😉

I assume the folder for the Kontakt images is still the same?

Hey Kymeia let me ask you a different question since you are so helpful.

When I import a 3rd party library into the User section of Kontakt 7, I always have to first import into the Custom tab so it gets scanned into Kontakt, delete it and then re-import it into the User tab. If I don’t do this the library doesn’t show up in the user section. Importing directly into the User section never works by itself even if I rescan. This isn’t the end of the world but it is a tedious extra step.

Am I missing something? Is there a better way to get my user libraries into Kontakt?

    Thanks,

    Larry

In my experience the imported third party libraries go in the Factory side of the Library browser, which I find a bit annoying as it means I can’t edit their tags. As far as I can see that is the default behaviour, I would love it if there was an option to put them in user because at least I could then tag them. I haven’t really tried your extra step though, I might give it a go even if it is a bit tedious

Hey Kymeia have you tried importing any Kontakt libraries into the User section yet?

Just curious what your experience was.
