Project from 6 months ago can't open - Kontakt and Ethereal Earth
Having a serious problem blocking my work.
Opening a Reaper project from 6 months ago running Kontakt 6 (I think, shows up as just 'Kontakt') and Ethereal Earth, I ímmediately get the "One or more Kontakt instances cannot be recalled correctly" error. Going into the project I can get it to manually find the samples, but Ethereal Earth still plays back nothing, and it says it is running in Demo mode.
I've made sure everything is up to date in Native Access (I was using an old version when this issue manifested) but Im still getting the same error.
Other advice I can find online is making no difference.
Can anyone help? Thanks

Researched more and found that Ethereal Earth is no longer compatible with Kontakt 6. Oh my.

Very common these days - simply download the prior version of that library and you should be good to go.
Just know that if you are intent on staying with Kontakt 6 - it would be prudent to stay far away from Native Access and do not update any Kontakt libraries for the go-forward.
Doing so will simply put you right back in this mess.

Very happy you figured this out on your own. As you've found, you need to reinstall the old version. It happened to me as well, and we're certainly not the only ones. The whole situation has been very poorly managed.
Vocalpoint's advice is solid: don't update any Kontakt libraries in Native Access unless you intend to and until you are fully migrated to Kontakt 7.

I'm totally using K7 on new projects, but have some older ones using Kontakt 6. It is a bit weird how they show up in my VST list as:
Kontakt 5
Kontakt
Kontak 7I understand on other DAWs it can seamlessly upgrade projects to 7, but not sure what tech enables this that Reaper lacks.
Upgrading stuff in Native Access doesn't seem to be an issue - I realise I can download the 6 versions from my previous link and install them in distinct folder (e.g I downloaded Ethereal Earth and installed it to a folder called "Ethereal Earth K6" and pointing Kontakt 6 to that folder when it can't find the content seems to sort it.

That would work. Native Access ideally should allow for this without manual downloads (i.e. it could let you choose to install each in different folders).
Ableton Live can't do the seamless upgrade either. It was up to the DAW developers to add that using whatever tech Native Instruments added to Kontakt 6, and they didn't.
The naming is because, as far as I know, NI wanted to use the same name from 6 onward, having each version replace the last, so they removed the number. Then they changed their minds and added it back with 7. I'm not sure that this is really useful to users, but maybe it is.

Even on other DAWs you would have to run the updated library on Kontakt 7. There was an architectural change in how libraries are managed in the new versions of Kontakt and other NI elements that will allow better integration and expanded capabilities across the industry going forward. For example I run Ethereal Earth ver. 2.1.1 which incorporates the NKS2 standard on my Kontakt 7 and Komplete Kontrol ver. 3.3.2. But it all depends on whether you're ready to move forward yet or not.

Where do you find the older version? It doesn't show up in Native Access. I have the same problem as the OP. An upgrade should never, ever, take away sounds. The latest version of Ethereal Earth no longer offers any of the built-in arpeggiated presets, including the one I was using.

Alk the old versions are linked on a pinned post on the Kontakt board.
Should find everything you need there.
And remember - once you rollback you should not go near Native Access again.
Or you will be right back in this hassle again
