S61 MK2 Plays the Wrong Note

Every time I press a key, the keyboard recognizes one semitone higher. This situation started a few months ago and I've had this keyboard from a couple of years, so this is a new problem. This is confirmed in my DAW and on the keyboard itself, which lights up the next key instead of the one pressed. I need to turn the keyboard off and on again to return it to normal, but sometimes that doesn’t work. The problem isn’t specific to the DAW, as it also occurs with the standalone version of Komplete Kontrol and other instruments like Arturia and Korg. What kind of problem could this be, and how can it be resolved? It’s impossible to use the keyboard like this.

    Hi,

Thank you for your questions. They made me go a bit deeper and understand exactly when the problem shows and then I found the solution.

It happens that when I open my DAW (Logic Pro / Mac Sonoma / latest updates), even before loading any instrument, every time I pressed a key the daw would show a semitone higher. Then you asked if the problem happened with Kontakt, and it does. But then I opened Komplete Kontrol standalone I noticed that it recognized the right note.

I noticed though that when I select a track in my DAW that doesn't have Komplete Kontrol, the keyboard goes to its Midi layout. When then I load and select a second track with Komplete Kontrol, then it plays it right, but only when I turn it off and on again, as if it was reseting the unit for Komplete Kontrol. So I figure that when in Midi mode it was playing the wrong note. Editing the midi template at some point I moved the transpose button up and never noticed, for it does not show the number and it still looks like it is in the central position. Only positioning the cursor above the button shows the +1 information. So, problem solved. The midi template was transposed and that information doesn't show anywhere but in the Komplete Kontrol standalone version when you click the Midi button, and that's it.

Thanks for the questions. They helped me figure out a problem that I've been having for such a long time. :)

Hi. No, I haven't transposed it accidentally. It happens every time I open a new stance of any software, DAW or standalone. Then I have to turn it off and on and it usually gets back to normal. I tried transposing, but in order to get the right note I have to actually transpose it one semitone down. Is there a was of maybe resetting the units or could this be a hardware problem? It doesn't seem like for it gets back to normal once I restart it, but I don't know. Thanks.

    Hi!

This issue is fascinating. I have a few questions; maybe some of the answers can help the devs.

    1. Mac or PC, and which OS?
    2. When you are having the problem, can you tell if the visual keyboard in the interface is playing the wrong notes? Or does it appear to play the correct key but you just hearing the wrong notes?

For example, when you play middle C, are you SEEING middle C play on the screen, but hearing middle C#?

    3. And when you record a sequence (when you are having the problem), are the notes in the recorded piano roll appearing a half step higher, or are they showing up correctly and sounding wrong?

    4. What version of Komplete Kontrol are you using? And if this has happened in Kontakt too, what version of that?
