Hi,

I picked up the Spotlight Collection: Ireland yesterday (among other things 😉) but unfortunately I'm really not pleased with the quality of the Irish Flute & Tin Whistle.

The quality of these 2 instruments (haven't played with the rest yet) is really disappointing. So far I've noticed 3 things when playing sustained notes.

  1. they cut off randomly
  2. the sustain sounds looped (and poorly)
  3. or worse, it sounds kind of like that sound you get when a program or your computer freezes but still sort of in key, very weird.

Now I have accumulated quite a list of NI instruments over the years but this is the first time I really feel bummed about the quality of one of their products. I've had a look at NI's return policy on software and the short of it is, If you haven’t registered or used the product, exceptions can be made.

That's all good and understandable but how are you supposed to find something like this out without using the actual product?

Has any of you ever encountered something like this and were you able to resolve the issue satisfactory?

You can change the playing style from "Fast" to "Slow" (see attached screenshot), for sustained notes this will give you better results.

The default "Fast" playing style for the flute and the whistle were optimized for fast passages, as typically utilized in Irish Traditional Music. The "Slow" playing style is better suited for slow airs.

As for sustained notes being cut off, this seems to be a KONTAKT engine error. It would be best to get in touch with support as there is nothing to be done on the instrument side to fix it.

    Hope this helps,

Thanks, And please stay tuned, we're currently investigating possibilities on how to improve "Fast" playing style for both the Irish flute and the whistle.

Yes there seems to be quite some inconsistencies on a note to note basis, as is I'd say it's only really usable if you draw in the MIDI notes.
