Connecting s88mk3 to external hub

I have a separate power adapter for the keyboard and it powers up fine. My issue is with connecting to the Mac itself. When directly plugging into the Mac it works as intended. But when I connect through the hub through usb c it does not. When I connect to the dongle with a usbc to usb a cable it works. Other devices work on the usbc port on the hub.
