Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone had any good plugin FX chains in Guitar Rig 7 for getting that crackling, warm, Vinyl texture.. Sound & feel.

Seeing as quite a few of GR7’s updated modules.. where LoFi focused.. I thought this might be appropriate to ask.

Most times with other plugins it ends up sounding as if the crackle was artificially produced (which it was).. any tips on how to get a realistic crackle sound? So that it sounds as if the crackle (like it is on vinyl records) is embedded in the recording itself, and doesn’t sound like a plug-in or crackle loop..

Thank you for any replies I get..

@AxMusic You're referring to including the Noise Machine component, right? I tend to combine that one and Tape Wobble, they're really complementary. I find something that helps with "warmth" is putting Tape Wobble afterwards to roll off the high end, with its own Age filter.

Another thing is to use modulation, like the random LFO, to drive some other parameters in these components, and make them more unstable. That increases the perceived organic factor.

It can respond dynamically to playing, too — if you hook up Input Level Modifier, when things like beats or bass slam on a track, it can affect the noise, which adds to the convincing simulation that the vinyl crackle IS part of the cohesive, holistic mix (and not just a separate part that happens to be tacked-on).
