It was me being an idiot, sorry, everything is now working fine so won’t bother with a new thread.
Thanks

Would be nice to also have the option to create templates on the Desktop and be able to send completed templates to the S series mk3.
We could even share them.

Yes. NI is putting out some communications as well. Thanks for raising this!
It appears there are two major issues with Sonoma 14.4.
- It broke iLok authorization. Some of our products include the option of iLok, particularly the iZotope ones, and so we're emailing anyone who may be affected to hold off updating, as many other brands have done. If folks are interested to read more, start here: https://www.production-expert.com/production-expert-1/sonoma-144-issue-with-pace-protected-products-dont-upgrade-your-os-yet
- It appears to have temporarily broken some USB-C hubs, as covered here https://www.macrumors.com/2024/03/13/macos-sonoma-14-4-usb-hub-issues-reported/. This is particularly frustrating, as it's possible some users relied on USB-C hubs to avoid the notorious USB-C issues plaguing peripherals when used with certain model years of certain computers made by certain manufacturers who certainly can't be named.

Yeah while I'm a fan overall of on-board capacity for performance features I think it's silly just having template editing and creation on the keyboard - templates are one thing that is always going to be easier to create on the larger computer screen and certainly sharing them should be possible. Why does it have to be an either/or?
3 -
Exactly - that sort of thing.

The line item mentioned on the roadmap that refers to improving Kontakt visualizations is exactly this idea. The ability for an instrument to send multiple images to the keyboard on demand.
2 -
Not in Q2 and Q3 at least. I've said publicly that this is on our radar, and it's certainly something I myself want, but not before the current things on the roadmap are done.

Whether it's in the first launch or a follow up launch, there will be the ability to share templates between users. We were discussing the scope of that issue today in fact.

It would be more ergonomically friendly to create them on desktop. Both I, and the design team agree with that. However, to start with, I prioritized on-device, because once it's there it's there forever, and is future-proof with or without any software required.
The to-do mentioned in the above comment refers to the idea that there would be a folder synced to desktop where templates are stored, so that they can be exported or imported as needed. If we were to follow up with a desktop app for the same thing, it would sync to that folder also.

OK good - so not an either/or then ultimately - just in the short term

Yes, indeed. A binary choice to start, and then a question of priority in the future.

Well this is encouraging... a crack in the stance of on-device only!
The on-device user experience is a pale comparison with the superior ergonomics of large desktop/laptop screen, QWERTY keyboard and trackpad/mouse.
Give users the choice. Those who want to bob their heads up & down between desktop and device can do so... but with a well designed desktop UI that mimics the device layout.. you don't need to look down too often... your hands will know where to go by muscle memory...just like reading music.
I want a 99% "heads-up" user experience.

I left my input on the roadmap, which is that it is hard to trust any of the MK3-related initiatives will be achieved given repeated delays. I did not post out of frustration, but rather to inform other users that may be considering purchasing an MK3. I’m sorry you don’t consider this valid feedback and choose to try excluding me with passive aggression. Respectfully, I have been a member of this community longer than you and will not be bullied out of it.

Agreed, but to Matthew’s point, we all know how software has a shelf life and it is nice to not depend on that. Also, with respect to Play Assist, this will open the door to all kinds of additional options with hardware synths and software alike
