Tips: Graphics problems with Guitar Rig 7

During the development and testing of Guitar Rig 7 we have unfortunately encountered a few combinations of hardware, graphics drivers and operating system versions that according to their manufacturer specifications should work fine but still exhibit graphical problems, e.g. due to bugs in the drivers.

If you are encountering such problems you could try using a workaround that we implemented starting with Guitar Rig 7.0.2 which will use a different graphical rendering engine (OpenGL) instead of the preferred native one. But please be aware that this is to be considered an unsupported and experimental feature, so use it at your own risk and only if Guitar Rig 7 really does not work for you otherwise.

Here is what you need to do in order to use the OpenGL renderer:

macOS

Open the Terminal application and enter this command

defaults write ~/Library/Preferences/com.native-instruments.Guitar\ Rig\ 7.plist OpenGL 1

Windows

Open the Registry Editor application and add a value called OpenGL as a DWORD (32-bit) with value 1 to this path

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Native Instruments\Guitar Rig 7

After you have done this you need to restart Guitar Rig. You can check which rendering engine is used by looking at the credit screen, which opens when you click on the NI logo at the top right corner of Guitar Rig:

I booted up GR7.02 a few minutes ago and was presented with a landscape aspect ratio which I cannot alter. I rebooted the computer and that did not solve the issue.

Do I have to re-install this application in order to get the original display back?

This is what the interface looks like.

PS> I followed the OpenGL instructions, which was a success, but it didn't solve my problem.

Don't bother replying, I figured it out.
