How can I listen to guitar rig together with PC audio, youtube etc.?

Hey y'all. I recently got an M-Track Solo to use with a fender strat to try to learn to play a bit better. I installed the ASIO drivers for the m-track and if i plug headphones directly into the device, it works great with Guitar Rig 7.

The problem is I was really hoping i'd be able to hear the amp sim through my PC so I can, for example, watch some lessons on youtube and play along with Guitar Rig. I've looked all over but haven't found any step by step guides for setting up Guitar Rig to use WASAPI. In ASIO mode, I can see the "IN" and "OUT" meters at the top lighting up green as I play. As soon as I try either WASAPI mode, the "IN" and "OUT" meters show nothing and obviously I can't hear anything. Do I need to toggle something on the M-Track? Change a windows setting?

To be honest I haven't even really been able to tell whether this would be the solution I'm looking for, or even whether I shouldn't actually just be able to use ASIO somehow? Is there a simpler way to achieve this?

As a side note, I don't understand what the difference is between Shared and Exclusive modes, so any info on that in relation to what I'm trying to do would be great. I've just been trying both with no success.

Hi Milos, thanks for the response. That did indeed clear up the difference between Shared and Exclusive mode (seems obvious now haha).

As for how to listen to Guitar Rig and PC audio together with PC audio, I was able to solve the problem by just using the ASIO drivers:

First of all, I didn't really realize I could set my PC's playback device to the M-Track device. With headphones plugged into the m-track, and the PC playback device set to it, and configuring the device correctly, I was able to listen to Guitar Rig and PC audio at the same time. So that was a simple solution. The only other thing I had to do was reduce the signal/clip on the guitar input, as soon as I started playing with PC audio at the same time, there was some pretty bad feedback that went away after reducing the signal/clip a bit more than I had had it previously.

I might have been able to solve this sooner but at the time I was trying to avoid plugging my headphones into the m-track because I had headphones with a usb audio card that I was using across two machines through a KVM. But after thinking about it, I decided I could find a different solution to the KVM and just switch to using the m-track for my main PC audio output.

Ceraon dunno if this helps you or not but in theory you might still be able to solve this by using WASAPI or something.

    Dear ohnomelon,

Difference between Shared and Exclusive is that when you use Exclusive, you only allow one program play the audio. As for the Shared, it is usually the opposite, as far as I know.

So, I recommend you to change to Wasabi Shared, and to disable the feature where you leave the daw or use other tab, the sound stops.

    I hope it helps somehow.

I have the same "issue" but I cannot find anywhere a clear and simple answer to this.

Go to the Preferences or Settings in your DAW.

Thengo to the Audio, Audio Driver or Audio settings.

You will find the WASAPI engine, ASIO and MME.

    Hope it helps, guys.

Thanks ohnomelon and Milos. I will try with my new interface (M-Track Solo) when it arrives. I was using the Behringer Xenyx-502S but for some reason, it was impossible to listen to both Guitar Rig and PC audio at the same time. I don't know if it was the lack of Behringer drivers or if I did something wrong with ASIO drivers.

I will try again with the new interface.
