Komplete Kontrol S88 Mk3 & Apple Logic pro keeps asking "Auto Assign"
Hi all,
I just received my mk3 S88! I updated it to the latest firmware - but I have an issue with Apple Logic. It keeps asking my to "Auto Assign" the keyboard every time. The controls weren't working even after making an "auto-assign". I ended up adding it manually as a control surface. All controls work now, but Lofic always keeps asking me to "auto-assign" it every time I start it up ...
Thanks for any ideas,
Cheers,
CJ

Same here, every time I start Logic it asks me that. Really hope there is a fix soon

delete any previous ni control surfaces in logic, and make sure you are using kontakt 7.6… not the latest 7.6.1

Using 7.6 vs 7.6.1 is vital to things working right in logic

A couple of quick checks:
1. Are using macOS 12.5 or macOS 13.5+. These versions include critical OS MIDI fixes and as such are the minimum versions for Kontrol Mk3.
Are you using Logic Pro 10.7.9
There is also an issue in Logic Pro that Apple are working in which can cause issues with setting up DAW Control for the first time. This is not specific to Kontrol Mk3.
The workaround for this is:
- Close Logic Pro
- In Finder, hold down the Option key and in the Go menu select Library
- Navigate to Preferences and delete the file com.apple.logic.pro.cs
- Switch OFF Kontrol Mk3
- Open Logic Pro
- Once Logic Pro has started, switch ON Kontrol Mk3 and accept Auto-Assign
Hopefully this will resolve your issue.

I am using Logic 10.7.9 under MacOS Sonoma 14.0
Thanks for the workaround, it works - but I am stupid - I already this workaround mapped as an Apple Script ready because the MK2 had the same issue - but somehow it didn't work with the mk3 at first. The solution here was to keep the MK3 shut off until Logic started up. Removing the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file with Logic closed but the MK3 running didn't help.
Now it works fine and I will keep my precious script!
Just to be complete - I originally made that script for the mk2 because sometimes Logic lost the mappings and the play/record buttons started to play midi notes when pushed ...

Glad it is resolved 👍Kontrol Mk3 uses Logic Pro's newer MIDI protocol for DAW Control so hopefully you won't see any issues now that you are set up.
Thanks for letting us know and enjoy!

I have the opposite issue, logic is not prompting me for "Auto Assign" even though the Kontrol S88 automatically shows up in the control surface area. I have deleted the com.apple.logic.pro.cs numerous times, re-installed the Hardware Connection Service in Native Access and still no luck.
I'm unable to control Logic Pro but when I load Komplete Kontrol or Kontact those two application functions as they should but the DAW section of the S** does not. Running macOS Sonoma 14.3.1 and Logic Pro 10.8.10 -
Try this: Logic Pro -> Control Surfaces -> Rebuild Defaults
