Using pitch wheel in Session Horns Pro

I'm writing a jump swing tune using Session Horns Pro and trying to create falls at the end of each phrase but I can't figure out the pitch wheel. I've tried the various setting in SHP but it doesn't seem to react consistently. Sometimes the pitch wheel works and then sometimes it doesn't. Is there a trick I'm not getting?

You need to first move pitch wheel up or down before playing a note for those falls or doits to trigger.
