VST-3 or AU plug-ins offer more audio outs?

Hello,

I am running Kontakt inside Komplete Kontrol as a plug-in inside Digital Performer 11 on a Mac. It is my understanding that VST-3 offers more audio outs than AU, so does anyone have any advise on whether to use the VST-3 or AU plug-in?

IIRC both VST2, VST3 and AU support up to 64 outputs and that's it.

Yes I know VST3 does but I seem to remember reading that AU supports less audio out channels. But I can't remember where I read that. 🙄
