Reaper/Kontact 7 hangs after some time - Mac Studio M1 Ventura

I am running many instances of Kontakt 7 in my Reaper and they all work fine. But when I come back after some time, Reaper is not responsive any more. I have to force-quit it and restart it and all is OK again. I used to use my Synology to hold the samples and got a thunderbolt drive hoping that would solve the issue -- but it is exactly the same behavior. Does anyone have an any idea how to fix it or diagnose it? Thank you all!

@Parasolian Can you quantify "some time"? So we can try a repro. Is it after your computer goes to sleep mode? Did you check your energy saving settings?

Do Reaper & Kontakt both have Full Disk Access? How to Enable Full Disk Access on macOS

I see that other than Native Access, no other NI or Reaper apps have full disk access. They did not rquest it. Should I provide it?

Sometime --- once in a while it is a couple of hours. Most other times it is at least a full day. I use Reaper almost in Kontact mode, i.e., I don't record in it now but mainly tryour ideas and sounds from the Compleate 13 Collector's edition.

I also have an M32 from NI but the browser and other buttons don't operate at all. The octave buttons work.

I am reinstalling some of the components because some libraries (not the ones I am using) are reported missing in K7. I will report back here if the issue goes away. I am using Kontakt 7.18

    Thanks for your help.

@Parasolian Well, the Full Disk Access thing can overcome any permission issue so it's always good to have it for all your audio apps or DAWs.

Have you checked your power settings?

Do you mean the M32 is also unusable after a while or it never works as expected? It's also important to give the Full Disk Access treatment to thez Komplete Kontrol application. Once this is done, open Komplete Kontrol in standalone and check everything is functional.

I have provided full disk access to Komplete Kontrol, Reaper, versions of Kontact and also the daemon. Will report back any stability obtained.

The M32 used to work some months ago -- I used it to browse thru the patches. Now, none of the buttons seem to have any effect on Kontakt 7 though I do see that the display on the M32 which says Template 1 responds with the CC number and its value.

Do i need to run an instance of KK as part of the Reaper along with each Kontakt instrument?

The full integration of the instruments (browsing, key switches, etc...) only come with the Komplete Kontrol standalone application or plug-in, not with Kontakt.

Update: It seems to me that providing full disk access to Reaper and all NI components does not solve the "not responsive" issue. I still need to force quit and restart. Is there a way to log the issues to see what is happening?

Update: Something interesting happened today that I had not seen before: I was playing a piano sample and it stopped responding right in the middle of a note. However, I found that the interface of the Kontakt plugin continued to respond (with no sound) so there is this possibility that the midi connection to Reaper has an issue.

@Parasolian What format is the external hard drive where your Kontakt libraries are installed?

@Jeremy_NI Under info:Format it says: Mac OS Extended (Journaled)

@Parasolian For newer operating systems we would recommend APFS, since you have a M1 Mac Studio it might be even more relevant. Notes on Hard Drive Formats on Mac Computers

What you could try is to install a couple of libraries on your system drive (whih is APFS) and see if you can reproduce the issue.

I could move the whole thing to the system. Shall I try to re-format the disk to APFS instead?

@Parasolian I would try with a couple of libraries first as I'm not sure 100% this will fix the issue, but if that doesn't take too much time for you APFS is better for your system anyway.

Update: I reformatted the entire SSD into APFS since it is better anyway and reinstalled all the instruments. The crash is still there. No change in behavior.
