808 Kick Distortion

I've noticed that some of the 808s inside of Maschine sound incredibly distorted as if they are clipping when I play them back. This is true no matter how softly I press the pad. Is this just baked into some of the audio files?

probably baked in, check the mixer section, if it's not in the red then it's baked into the sample,.

    Isn’t 808 all about distortion? 😂

Jokes apart, some of the 808 sounds should sound “cleaner”, but for others the distortion is part of the sound designing. It depends on which preset you use

You can look at the waveform of samples. Distortion is pretty obvious.

Probably just distortion fx baked in.

Rule of thumb is older kits tend to be clean and faithfull to the original Roland TR-808 but modern ones are distorted, especially if aimed at certain genres.

Mainly for a more agressive sound and so that people can still hear it in ****** phones, laptop speakers, etc.... gotta have those harmonics.
