Komplete Audio record stereo via one TRS cable

Hi, before I waste money on buying the wrong cables I thought I ask the NI community for help. I am finding conflicting info on this topic onlione. I am a bit confused on how stereo via TRS 1/4 inch cables work.

Here is the intended setup:

Buy a TRS Y cable. Connect the 2 TS sides into the 2 L/R outputs of a Yamaha Reface DX (or any other stereo synth outputs that is), then plug the TRS end into a Komplete Audio XLR/Jack combo input.

Alternatively, would it change anything if I have a mixer in between? : Using TRS Y cable, connect outputs from the Reface into a mixer stereo in. And then stereo out of the mixer into Komplete audio (via TRS to TRS cable).

Question:

Can I now record stereo into Maschine/any DAW from this single input? Or does stereo only work by running 2 separate TS cables into 2 inputs on the audio interface?

Well, the things are even more complicated....

There are 3 basic ways, how analog audio signal is distributed:

    1) TS jack/cinch/Cannon (XLR) for single channel - unballanced connection used mostly by prosumer segment

    2) TRS/Cannon (XLR) for single channel - ballanced connection used mostly for pro segment

    3) TRS for stereo - unballanced connection used mostly by prosumer segment

Komplete Audio 2 has two mono inputs. To connect it with your Yamaha you will need two TS cables. Or two TRS cables if the source provides ballanced signal.

Generally two TRS cables are more universal, IMHO, you may use it for the both ballanced and unballanced signals.
