Kontakt file created in 6.71 not compatible with 6.61?

I have created an instrument for a friend. I used 6.71 standalone to create it.

Kontakt nki file created in 6.71 shows "Your version of Kontakt is too old to open this file" when loaded in 6.61 as a plugin to Finale.

Is there REALLY incompatibility in such minor revisions? I just did a downgrade to 6.61 and it won't load on mine either. This seems like a big issue if I were selling my stuff to users that may not have my version.

Kontakt is always backward compatible. But if changes are made within the hierarchy, then any instrument made after such changes will require the new model.

If you create an instrument with Kontakt 7 or any revision that follows, all users will require the version with those changes. But any instrument made prior to those changes will be compatible. I have instruments from Kontakt 2 that I use with Kontakt 6.

    It makes total sense.

    Thanks.

"changes are made within the hierarchy" means upgrading from 6.61 to 6.71? or is it something else?

It just means whichever version you create your instrument in, it will require that version or newer to open it.
