Custom GUI Skinning

I would like to add a very simple GUI skinned stacked macro selector that I made in Adobe Illustrator, and I think the multi picture might be the best option for it. It seems very daunting, and the image properties calls for a bitmap "that contains a number of pictures can be loaded. I have a very simple skin for my first design. I followed Audio Ordeal's video(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAy6uixiMeA&t=276s) from a few years ago on youtube, and most of it made sense, but the video doesn't go into depth on what actually allows 4 of these pictures which highlight the selected macro in the sequence, and unfortunately for me there seems to be not a whole lot of resources for learning GUI skinning(at least modern ones).

Hopefully somone could provide a hint or some advice!

Thanks!
