CPU overload and no sounds for few seconds when loading a library patch

Happens with Orchestral Tools libraries like Metropolis ARKs and Inspire 1 and 2

using Cubase 10.5 and 12. Happens in both versions of Cubase.

doesn’t happen in Kontakt standalone.

when load any instrument from any of those libraries, a red exclamation symbol with cpu overload spears in Kontakt.

and when the error goes away, all of a sudden the sound starts playing if the notes that I was playing while it was loading. Seems like the notes were memorized in the buffer.

Hi @vad777 are you by any chance using an M1 Mac?

Are you using a VST3 or VST2 version in Cubase?

Maybe worth turning on Multiprocessor support in Kontakt's options to see if it helps with the performance. This can help distribute some of the processing load. Also if you haven't already, make sure that in your Mac's system preferences, under Security And Privacy, you've given full disk access to Kontakt and Cubase.

I’m using VST2 version. I removed VST3 version from plugins folder because when opening older Cubase projects that have Kontakt vst2 in them, Cubase automatically loads Kontakt vst3 version instead of vst2, and all instances can’t find the patches for those tracks.

this is very strange because all other plugins both vst2 and vst3 version show up in Cubase and I can chose which one to use. But not Kontakt, if I put Kontakt vst3 in vst3 plugins folder then Cubase will only show Kontakt vst3 version and won’t be able to let me use Kontakt vst2.

I have multiprocessing turned on, set to all 10 cores.

Kontakt and Cubase are given full disk access.

also I have tried the recommendations in that link but none of them solve the issue

If I understand correctly, you used VST2 before and want to continue using that format after upgrading to Cubase 12 but it doesn't let you right? If that's the case, Steinberg has phased out the VST2 format and only VST3 is supported that's why it blacklisted VST2.

Can you double-check if you deleted the VST3 version of Kontakt as specified by the install path in the Cubase Plugin Manager?

no, I used VST2 version before and I still can use VST2 version in cubase 12 under rosetta mode on a Mac M1. I'm not using VST3 version, I'm using VST2 version. But that's not the issue, the issue is with loading Orchestral Tools libraries like ARK1, Inspire etc into Kontakt and Kontakt goes into CPU overload for few seconds.

very hard to work on music with such issue, every time I load one of the instruments from those libraries Kontakt goes into CPU overload and freezes for few seconds.

@vad777 So you only get these issues only with these libraries? Are they installed on a different location than your other libraries ? Are they installed on an external hard drive? What is the format of that drive? Also make sure that both Cubase and Kontakt have Full Disk Access: How to Enable Full Disk Access on macOS

Yes only with those libraries. All Kontakt Libraries are install on internal drive all kontakt libraries in the same directory: Macintosh HD \ Users \ Kontakt Libraries. Format of the drive is what the macbook came with it, I haven't reformatted anything. I rechecked the Disk Access and full access is given to Kontakt, Native Access, Cubase and other music apps

Oh oops, will do it now, sorry. I just have another ticket open about the broken NI Komplete Kontrol so was too focused on that one that forgot about this one.

I’ll focus back on this issue after I get the Broken Midi controller issue resolved.

it has been almost a month working NI support. Took couple days to approve the repair request, then around a week to send me the shipping label after I paid for repair, then to reply to me that they received it, and then after few days of no reply from NI I messaged again, got a reply and was told that replacement keyboards are out of stock..

never had so many issues with any audio software or hardware company.
