Hi,
I purchased the k15 ultimate to replace my 360 plus subscription.
In august, I'll move to a totally new machine where I'll need to install everything from scratch as I change OS (win10 end of extended support is this winter, no other choice, will migrate to win11) but also the storage hardware itself (moving from pcie 4 and 3 to pcie 5 and 4 ssd). Meaning I'll not be able to just 'move' everything, it will be a new fresh install.
I did a full audit of what I use and need to plan that migration, but I might have some surprises along the way.
To ensure the migration is complete, I'll temporarily have to keep the old machine in a functional state until I can guarantee the new one load my current sessions without any trouble, allowing me to cross check everything and keep a working environment in case of something going wrong with the new machine and maybe that migration completion having to be a bit delayed.
From what I understand, having two installs will not be a problem in itself, as I can go up to three, as long as only one is running. And when I'll uninstall on the old machine, I'll get back the license seat dedicated to it. Is this right ? I should normally never need those in the years coming, but I'd like to be sure how many installation seat I'll have available.
Also, I'm a bit scared about how native access detect if multiple machine are used at the same time. I plan on having only one powered and running at the same time to make sure I'm not flagged as trying to violate the license agreement (and maybe loose my recently purchased product), but I might have a few days of switching between both, maybe sometimes multiple times per hour. Is there something specific or additional I'll need to do to make sure everything goes well from the DRM perspective ?
I know this might sound like playing with the red line, but if I remember correctly, native access only need access to the internet once every few weeks. Would keeping the old machine offline during that migration be able to mitigate the risk of being flagged as running multiple instance of the same product at the same time ? Maybe allowing me to ease a bit the verification of the migration process.
Finally, I tried to look after that, but without success: is there a way to revoke from my account an installation/machine, as some other software providers do ? Allowing me to make sure that old machine is not considered a working install anymore.
So, to sum it up:
- When I uninstall the old machine, will I get it's installation seat back ?
- Is there anything specific I should be doing during the few days where both machine will be used outside of powering off one before restarting the other ?
- Could I ease that machine switching process during the migration by turning off the network access ?
- Is there a way to check and revoke from my account the install recognized by NI as being active ?
Thank you in advance for your help !
