Points > Play counts

We all know that play counts are not always valid measures of your impact as a music creator. But in a community where hacks and tips dominate the playground, points under your name are more than just a number. They serve as a seal of approval.

Points are earned by engaging in meaningful dialogues, being nice and supportive to your peers, and convincing them that you know what you’re talking about.

You earn points when:

  • Your post or comment gets voted up
  • Your post or comments gets a like
  • Your post or comment is flagged as insightful
  • Your answer is accepted
  • You get a badge

You lose points when:

  • Your post or comment gets reported as spam
  • Your post or comment gets reported as abuse

Make waves

Are you a new Noise on the block, a Sine ready to make a buzz, or a certified pro Glitch? Your rank is a reflection of how much the community members trust you and how much your contributions are valued by them.

Here are all the five ranks you can earn, along with how much time, posts and points are required to reach each one.

Of course not all waveforms are created equal. The higher you level up, the more influence you’re going to have and the more secret rewards you’ll unlock. ✨

Collect badges

For each milestone you reach in this community, you’ll receive a badge to display under your profile for posterity and greatness. More specifically, as you:

  • Accumulate membership time
  • Make comments
  • Gain likes
  • Get upvotes
  • Give answers
  • Say something insightful

you’ll reach milestones that are rewarded with shiny achievement medals.

Think of badges as virtual band patches and pins for your jacket, except that they are more than just decorative. Each badge lets you earn extra bonus points which will count towards your ranking as well.

Hey Paule, are you referring to anniversary badges? Or you mean something extra when someone has reached like a 5th year anniversary?

Hi Kaiwan, yes the anniversary badges and the golden badge.
Or are them only good looking orders on a ribbon?

Can we increase our chances of being the top poster by just commenting on a post for the sake of it?

I can even quote myself to increase my chances of climbing the ladder :)

On the serious side tho, ranks are fine, I liked how it was on the old forum with the likes (always thought the dislike was kind of unneeded and abused by some) but TBH I don't (personally) like the rank lists on the right that show on every page. I've echoed the suggestion already that I feel it perpetuates some users to be overly spammy in posts like I demonstrated just to boost their name to be on the lists and joining conversation which adds noise for no real benefit. .

It's great to have access to it when you need it to see who you can call on if needed but from experience on the old forum and other forums it provides far too easy a shortcut for lazy users to just PM all the top posters instead of using a forum for their question and certainly makes posting more of a "competition" which is really how it sounds above as how it is being toted too.

On the home page I could accept it but not sure I like it constantly on every page I click. I have actually temporarily removed the element on my end because it's just not something I need to see daily. Maybe i'm just old and not really interested to compete in badges, numbers and ladders, I really just hang out to share info casually without being "on display" for users to easily PM me for direct 1:1 help.

I’m not trying to rain on anyone’s parade, but this really creeps me out.

Don't fear about the influencer design.

Use the forum and don't care about badges!

well we know what high traffic here does for NI and while we get info/help in return, I believe incentives for high/helpful engagement will motivate users to actually explore and use the gear/software more in order to be more helpful/informed. Everyone wins.

@JesterMgee @GoKeez Can't divulge much but don't be surprised if one day a voucher lands in your inbox 😬

It does look like you'll reach your 16th anniversary this March. So awesome to see someone being active on the forum for so long. TBH we don't have any extra bonus planned cause we thought there would be no interest but now that you brought it up....we'll definitely consider it.
